Catechesis of the Good Shepherd ages 3-6
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is scheduled each Sunday from
10:00am- 11:15am in the “atrium” located in the youth center.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a particular approach to the religious formation of very young children, beginning with ages 3-6 years. It is rooted in Scripture, the Liturgy of the Church and the education principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an “atrium” a room prepared specially for them, which contain simple yet beautiful materials made by the C of the GS team.
Religious Education ( RE) grades K through 5
Religious Education is on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Sunday of each month from 10:00 am to 11:15 am
and followed by the Family Mass at 11:30am.
The Religious Education program is an essential tool we can use to help fulfill the promise you made when your children were baptized. We will use the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies Faith Formation Program this year. Every child will receive a religious education handbook along with 32 weekly lessons based on the Sunday Gospels from September to May. The handbook, What the Church Believes and Teaches, introduces, reviews, and reinforces the basic Church teachings that need to be mastered at each grade level. The Weekly Lessons inspire children to live the Gospel in their daily lives. Every lesson goes home to involve parents as well, and to foster attendance at Sunday Mass for the whole family. Also on-line resources and activities are available to families at Pflaumweeklies.com
Our goal is to support parents in properly educating and forming their children in the ways of faith in accord with the teachings of the Catholic Church. At Our Lady of the Lake the children qualified to receive First Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation must be enrolled in the religious education classes at their grade level.
G.A.P. Grades 6-8
G.A.P is on the the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:30-7:30 PM
The G.A.P. is a Catholic centered youth ministry aimed at these young adolescents. The G.A.P. is designed to meet their educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs. As part of the Catholic Church’s mission to evangelize and spread the gospel message of Jesus Christ, middle school youth are encouraged to go out and bring their friends to The G.A.P. Goals of The G.A.P:
1. To foster a transforming spiritual experience of Jesus through the liturgy which will allow early adolescents to experience the Word of God and The Eucharist in a deep and profound way.
2. To create a positive experience of the Catholic Church for early adolescents
3. To assist middle school youngsters in gaining an understanding and appreciation of what the Catholic Church teaches and believes. To incorporate the Catholic Church’s vision of social justice and peace into the spiritual life of pre-adolescents. To develop an understanding in middle school youth that they are a vital and visual presence within the parish community.
B.A.S.I.C. Grades 9-12
B.A.S.I.C. is on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:00 PM
B.A.S.I.C. is a comprehensive youth ministry program based on, focused on, and directed toward the Eucharist. Each week, at Mass and at every B.A.S.I.C. Night, high school teens gather in an environment to experience fully the greatest gift we have as a Catholic Church. What attracts teens to B.A.S.I.C.?
Two things…THE TRUTH and EXPERIENCE. Teaching teens about the truth in line with the theology of the Catholic Church is how the program educates through creative Bible studies, retreats, discussions and personal experiences. Providing powerful liturgies for teens and their families is how the program helps them experience the power and love of Christ in the Eucharist, the Word of God and each other.
