The Sacrament of Baptism

Our Lady of the Lake Parish provides formation classes for parents and Godparents. This formation meets the requirements of the Diocese of San Bernardino. The sessions will be scheduled individually in English. The process is the same in Spanish, but the sessions are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Parents: To begin the process for the baptism of infants and children under seven years of age, parents will need to come to the parish office to complete a Baptismal Information form. Please bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate with you at that time. After the form has been completed, an appointment will be scheduled with the Pastor or his delegate. During that appointment the form will be reviewed and the schedule of the formation session and date of the baptism celebrations will be provided.

Sacramental Preparation - First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

The guidelines for families involved in sacramental programs at Our Lady of the Lake are as follows (all of the following criterion must be met for a child to be eligible to participate):
The child has been baptized in the Catholic Church and a copy of the certificate is on file at our office.
The child is in second grade or higher.
The child has participated in at least one year of religious education in either a parish program, Catholic school or home based program (If the classes are from another parish we need a letter from the parish where the class was attended).
The child’s family is registered at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
The child will participate in their grade level classes and their sacramental classes. Parents will participate in the parent classes when scheduled.
We will provide a retreat for each sacrament in which you and your child can participate. Parent attendance at these retreats is essential if a child is to adequately be prepared to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation or Eucharist.

Reception of the Sacrament:
A “Readiness interview” will be scheduled prior to the reception of the Sacraments.

The Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is a two year process. Candidates must be at least a sophomore in high school to start confirmation preparation. Candidates must be baptized in the Catholic Church and must have already received the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion. Participation in Life Teen and regular Mass attendance is required with no more than 3 absences from Life Teen per year. There are 7 additional classes specifically for Confirmation, all of which are mandatory. At least 1 weekend retreat must be attended during the 2 years of Confirmation, and a Work of Mercy Project must be completed each year. Candidates must also participate in liturgical ministries every week at Mass (usher, lector, altar server, music, greeter, bringing up the gifts, etc.).

Confirmation I & II classes are scheduled the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month in the hall.

The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

Your decision to be joined in the Sacrament of Marriage brings many changes in your lives as Christians and as members of Our Lady of the Lake Church.  It is important therefore, that you spend some time in preparation for this new role.

We are deeply concerned that a couple wishing to marry understand the position of the Catholic Church in regard to the sacramental nature of Marriage, children and the special indissoluble commitment they will be asked to make to each other and to the Church.

Every couple wishing to marry in Our Lady of the Lake must notify the rectory at least six months prior to the proposed wedding date; they must participate in a pre-marriage program, an Engaged Encounter Weekend and must complete various documents, including a pre-nuptial investigation and focus testing.

A couple may request any date for their wedding on a first come, first granted basis, according to the following:

Sundays and holy days  NO WEDDINGS

Saturdays  11:00 AM and 1:00 PM

            Monday –Fridays  anytime

PREGNANCY is not a condition which will alter any part of the marriage program.  This condition may, in fact, necessitate the couple receiving additional counseling.

MARRIAGE OF MINORS  When either of the parties is under the age of 19 at the time they make their intentions to marry known, the decision to proceed may be given only after consultation with the parents or guardians.

DOCUMENTS  You must provide a recently dated (within 6 months) Baptismal certificate.  Other forms, such as dispensations and permission forms may be required.  The Priest preparing you will inform you of these as needed.  The Marriage License can be applied for at the County Office at 222 W. Hospitality Lane, San Bernardino, up to 90 days before the marriage.  The Marriage License must be brought to the parish office one week before the wedding. For information about the civil marriage license call, 909-387-8334.

(No cash please)

REHEARSAL   will be set with the priest celebrating the marriage.  This date and time must be confirmed by the office staff.
